Essential Components of the Response to Intervention Framework

… and how it can be used to improve classroom instruction and intervention for students of all abilities.

The Response to Intervention (RTI) Framework is a multi-tiered framework based on systematic and increasingly intensive educational interventions targeting individual student needs. Participants will examine the three tier RTI pyramid, each level representing a more intense level of instruction; the first tier being instruction for the whole class, the second tier small group intervention and the top tier reserved for individual intervention.

We will explore how RTI can be used to prevent academic failure and enhance learning outcomes for all students. Participants will examine research-based instruction and intervention, and how to use assessment and data to inform educational practice.

While RTI has traditionally been used to assist students with learning difficulties and disabilities, participants will explore how the framework can be used to cater for gifted children and adolescents.
